BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

Botox Scottsdale & Glendale

FDA Approved BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have become a popular non-surgical method of reversing visible signs of aging, providing a more youthful appearance.

During a quick office visit (injections can be administered in 5 to 15 minutes per area) we can eliminate or reduce facial wrinkles such as crow’s feet, frown lines or squinting lines. You will see results within just a few days and be able to return to most daily activities immediately following your appointment — no recovery time needed.

“Last year alone, more than 855,000 people received injections of botulinum toxin type A, as BOTOX® Cosmetic is formally known, to smooth out frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet and neck bands.” – LA Times, April 16, 2002

“U.S. BOTOX® COSMETIC treatments have increased 46% since 2000 and were rated #1 among the 8.5 million surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed in 2001.”

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

Very tiny, pinpoint BOTOX® Cosmetic injections target the source of lines and wrinkles by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine to relax overactive muscles. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother and more relaxed, causing the wrinkles to disappear. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections take 5 to 15 minutes per treatment area, providing dramatic results with minimal discomfort, no local anesthesia and no recovery time.

What can I expect for results?

Within 3-5 days you will notice a dramatic difference in the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles around the treated area. Additional or repeat injections are typically necessary about every 4-6 months, although results may vary. Repeat treatments can extend the amount of time it takes for muscles to begin contracting again, making it possible for patients to wait longer before having repeat injections.

Are BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments safe?

Originally, ophthalmologists used BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat nervous twitching of the eyelid. In 1989, BOTOX® Cosmetic was FDA approved for the treatment of strabismus and blepharospasm eye disorders. In 2000, it was FDA approved for the treatment of a disorder that causes neck and shoulder spasms. Recently BOTOX® Cosmetic was FDA approved for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.

There are few side effects from BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, although allergy to any medicine is possible. The doctor will discuss with you any side effects that may be caused in correlation with taking prescription medicine.

Am I a candidate?

Women who are pregnant or nursing are not candidates for this procedure. Patients who are taking certain medications or have certain neuromuscular diseases are not candidates for this procedure. Please make sure to discuss with the doctor all of your medical conditions along with any medications that you are taking.

Are there limitations?

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are a temporary solution for treating dynamic wrinkles or lines, usually lasting 4-6 months. BOTOX® Cosmetic cannot treat wrinkles from sun-damaged skin, since they are unrelated to facial muscle contractions. Together, you and the doctor will discuss the number and regularity of treatments that would be best for you and your desired results.

Latisse

Latisse is a topical product that helps lengthen, darken and thicken eyelashes. It can only be obtained with a prescription and is available at Schwartz Laser Eye Center. Latisse’s active ingredient, bimatoprost, is actually used in some glaucoma drugs. It both extends the hair growth phase and increases the quantity of hairs that grow.

Latisse should be applied nightly to the upper lash line only. It spreads to the lower lash line when blinking. Most people see noticeable results after two months of using the product nightly. If Latisse is discontinued, eyelashes typically return to their original length, color and thickness.
